And the New Editor of Michelle Obama Watch Is….
Today is the day! I am officially stepping aside as the Editor-in-chief of Michelle Obama Watch. I’m turning the site over to someone who can give the site the care it requires. I’ve been struggling to keep up.
I’ve had a BLAST. This blog audience is so much fun and this has been a wonderful escape from my other work online that often times looks more like a Lifetime Sunday Movie or a crime blotter. Even the critics that occasionally stop by have offered their own unique form of entertainment. I miss you Nurse Snow 
Back when I started this blog, I was doing it because I felt the voices of women like me were not being included in the national discussion about Michelle Obama. This was at the end of the Democratic primary and she was getting hammered and there, IMHO, was no vigorous defense of someone who reminded me very much of myself and many of my friends. If she was supposed to be some angry Black militant, what did that make the rest of us? At the time it wasn’t so much about Michelle Obama in particular, but the media’s treatment of Black women in general. I think it’s fair to say we accomplished our goal.
We’ve done far more than I ever hoped to achieve. For goodness sakes, we got a shout out on Entertainment Tonight! I think that was the highlight of all of the media attention we’ve gotten . We’ve been quoted all over the world in many different languages. I’ve done radio is Ireland and TV in India. Who knew?
I want to thank all of the contributors who’ve helped along the way. I couldn’t have done it without you. I especially want to thank SJP, LorMarie, and Bridgette who stuck it out when things weren’t “exciting.” It’s easy to post in the middle of a frenzy, but its the slow weeks that are the hardest.
And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the next Editor of Michelle Obama Watch is…..(drum roll) Aminah Hannan!
I met Aminah at Blogging While Brown and she was my assistant at one of the blogging boot camps I teach throughout the year. We share a love of all things Michelle Obama. You may have already noticed some changes in the side bar. She also has plans to provide original content. Her first effort is “Why Michelle Rocks!” She wants you to send her emails and videos telling the world why you think First Lady Michelle Obama rocks! We’ve already gotten some entries, keep those coming in.
I’ll still be around to respond to chicanery and foolishness We haven’t figured out my new title. I kind of like “Curmudgeon-in-Chief” I’m not going anywhere, I’m just sliding out of the driver’s seat.
So today is a new day here at Michelle Obama Watch. Enjoy!
