First Lady Michelle Obama, International Hostess Day Two
The G20 Summit has come to an end and with it the Pittsburgh Summit 2009 Spousal Program, that was fabulously hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama. On day two of the Summit the First Lady, an advocate for art and music education, invited the spouses to tour the Pittsburgh Creative And Performing Arts School (CAPA). Mrs Obama hosted a performance that featured CAPA students as well as Yo-Yo Ma, Trisha Yearwood and Sara Bareilles.
Summit Spouses attended a luncheon at the Andy Warhol Museum. The spouses toured the museum and were given the opportunity to indulge in a little make ‘n take arts and crafts. Spouses could silk-screen a Warhol floral image on a tote bag to take home with them. The Warhol tour was scheduled to culminate with the opening of one of Warhol’s famous time capsules.
“I wanted to come here because this school embodies the belief that President Obama and I share – and that is the arts aren’t just a nice thing to do if you have a little time, right? It’s not just a hobby, although it can be a very good hobby. It shouldn’t be something you do just because you can afford it.
“We believe strongly that the arts aren’t somehow an ‘extra’ part of our national life, but instead we feel that the arts are at the heart of our national life,” stated the First Lady according to Trak.in News.
