Bonnie Erbe Calls Michelle Obama a” Stepford Wife”

Whew Chile! Bonnie Erbe is back on the march and this time she went IN! She went in all the way! In a post that is critical of President Obama’s golfing and basketball activities that do not include women, Ms. Erbe compared Presiden Barack Obama to former NC Senator Jesse Helms and then tops off her criticism by calling Michelle Obama a “stepford wife”
“Whether it was his treatment of Hillary Clinton on the campaign trail (as in his condescending remark that she was “likeable enough”) or his clearly career-oriented mate who has been toned down and remorphed into a Stepford Wife, I just don’t get the impression this man is comfortable with women. Nor do I believe he cares about them beyond needing women’s votes. It’s an act and a thoroughly see-through, amateur one at that.” US News & World Report
Oh no she didn’t-Oh. Yes. She. Did!
Would it be “catty” for me to tell Bonnie to “retract the claws?”
Now when Michelle Obama was her husband’s most high profile political surrogate on the campaign trail, she caught pure unadulterated HELL! Y’all do remember that Democratic primary, back before the Black Elite Establishment made up their minds about which race horse they wanted to back in this race? Y’all remember those days when she was one of the few people who could pull a crowd other than her husband? Back then when folks online and on talk radio were swilling and spilling all kinds of hateraid at Michelle Obama, I don’t recall prominent “feminists” running to her aid to say “Um, no fair!” Heck, even the campaign didn’t defend her in any credible coherent way, settling instead for letting people like the NY Times to imply that Michelle Obama needed a “makeover.” Y’all do remember those days when they threw her out on the trail to speak about her husband’s smelly socks and failure to place the butter in the proper compartment?
Well NOW all of a sudden these folks who let her be a political punching bag are trashing her for “playing it safe.”
In my opinion, NO POLITICAL SPOUSE, male or female, should have a prominent role in policy making. If they want to run something then they need to campaign and run themselves. Whether that’s Michelle Obama or Todd Palin, if we didn’t elect you stick to informal influence.
But what exactly is Michelle Obama doing now that she wasn’t doing at the University of Chicago? She was doing community outreach then and that’s what she is doing now.
Its no wonder she prefers the company of children. She’s not the first Politician or political spouse to seek the safety of children as opposed to mean spirited adults. Furthermore, why does Ms. Erbe INSIST that the only “career” is working for someone else? Was my Grandmother a Stepford wife because she stayed home? Is Ms. Erbe more important because she didn’t?
If you want Michelle Obama to do more, then you had better dayum well indicate that you’ll back her if she decides to head in a different direction. At the end of the day, Michelle Obama is on her own. She’s willing to take one for the team and the Ms. Erbe’s of the world will sit on the sidelines when she comes under attack for taking too high profile a role on policy matters. Better to be a Stepford Wife than a Cowardly Lion-ess. MEOW!
